Tofino Babymoon Trip 2022 Day 2

Tofino Babymoon Trip 2022 Day 2

We started off our second day with a simple breakfast of Chinese bakery buns which we brought on the trip, because we were heading to do some Whale Watching! This trip was meant to just be chill so we didn’t have much expectations or didn’t plan a lot of activity, but a lot of people recommended to go whale watching and since we all have never done it, we decided to try it out! I personally have swam with whales in the Philippines and seen dolphins swim around us but I had never done it in the Pacific Northwest / Canada - which I knew was going to be different since it’s definitely much ho

Day 2: Whale Watching and Exploring

We knew it was going to be raining after seeing the forecast the past few days, but when I contacted Tofino Marina and Resort they said it was a rain or shine activity. I would highly recommend to ask next time to MOVE the activity because it’s not true that it’s a rain or shine activity. It definitely affects the state of the seas (rougher waters) and poor visibility. Especially with a 4 year old who had never been on rough seas - no wonder he got sick. We asked for a covered boat especially since Chase was so young, and with weather like this, there’s no way we could’ve gone on the Zodiak boat.

C already knew he was prone to seasickness, so he took Gravol before he went on the boat, but we weren’t sure about Chase. We brought the medicine just in case, but I guess it was too late! The seas were sooo rough and Chase couldn’t quite verbalize what he felt, he just kept saying he wanted to go home. Started to notice his lips turning pale and sure enough… he vomited (twice). After that, he fell asleep and then when he woke up he felt better! The rainy weather was just terrible for viewing. We apparently found a grey whale, which none of us could see except the very occasional blowhole spurts. Apparently we also saw some otters but it was so very hard to see with the rain and by the time I could point it out to Chase, it would be gone. I even brought binoculars, but nope. Since our boat was the first to spot the grey whale, it also meant that the captain decided to tell the entire world that there was a whale so within 10 minutes there were 7 other boats watching this seemingly nonexistent whale.

I definitely don’t recommend this activity especially with young kiddos! I think you’d be better off watching Discovery Channel or some whale documentary on Netflix / Youtube instead, lol.

Right after, we had a delicious lunch at Basic Goodness Pizza which made up for our horrid experience whale watching. In the afternoon we had a lazy one just playing puzzles and taking a nap, which is always welcome for the 34-week pregnant me. We had dinner at 1909 Kitchen and Bar which I don’t recommend - the food was mediocre. I think the ambience would’ve been nice if the weather was nice, but the food wasn’t interesting After dinner, we went for a dip in our indoor heated pool and hot tub which was very nice. Then, we walked around Mackenzie beach especially towards the south end which was super cool. We discovered that the low tide cleared out certain sections so we could explore much more of the beach area and marine animals, too.

According to Clement - this made the trip :) Finally, the sun came out for us and we got to enjoy God’s creation, watching the crashing waves, flipping rocks, spotting starfishes and other marine life for fun.

So grateful we got to experience this time together as a family!

xoxo,
